Now Avid has made Media Composer more affordable than ever by cutting the price in half and positioning it as the flagship editing solution from Avid.

Compact enough to take on location yet powerful enough to serve as the core of a professional video-editing suite, Avid Mojo SDI hardware connect to both laptop and desktop systems, both Mac and PC, with a single IEEE-1394 (FireWire) cable. Unlike other add-on hardware, they let you capture audio or video while also providing output of the same source.

The new hardware - the DX product line - starts with Mojo DX and goes up to Nitris DX with improved performance from a combination of CPU, GPU and the processors in the new hardware line. Unlike Mojo and Adrenaline, which connected via the relatively slow FireWire bus, the new DX line connects directly the to PCIe bus for 10 Gbit throughput. Sorenson Squeeze 5 dramatically reduces encode times on multi-core machines by allowing users to compress and encode as many as 1.5 files on each of the host computer's processor cores, enabling a quad-core processor, for example, to process six files simultaneously.

Squeeze 5 includes a number of technologies to improve video quality. For Blu-ray encoding, the highly efficient VC-1 video encoder is now included. Significant quality improvements have been made for MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and H.264 encoders, especially when using HD settings. New video pre-processing filters include Watermark, Hue-and-Saturation, Sharpen, and significant improvements have been made in the Inverse Telecine, Video Fade and the Deinterlacing filters, all resulting in higher quality video.

Sorenson Squeeze 5 embraces the long-time Squeeze tradition that uncomplicated workflow is essential for users. The new Audience Presets feature allows users to bundle preprocessing filters, filter order, encoding settings and even output destinations, such as FTP, into a single custom preset. Squeeze 5 also allows presets to be sorted by either format or output target. In addition, a convenient active-search feature built into the preset lists allows users to quickly find what they need.

Telestream today announced availability of Episode 5.0 encoding software which expands format support to a greater number of specific digital media workflows for Apple professionals. For high-end post-production workflows, Telestream’s high-performance Episode Engine server software adds input support for RED camera, Cineon and DPX formats. For its core content repurposing to Web and mobile workflows, the entire Episode family adds support for the latest Flash 8, Flash 9 and Blu-ray formats. For Apple’s new Final Cut Server media asset management and workflow automation software, Episode expands format choices beyond QuickTime to virtually any format.
